- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng began talks in South Korea on Wednesday , ahead of a summit later in the week in Beijing between the leaders of the world's two largest economies.

A Reuters witness said that Bisent and He began their talks at Incheon Airport after meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at the presidential Blue House.

The talks are likely to cover a range of issues ahead of the planned meeting on Thursday and Friday between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The delegation accompanying He included Li Zhenggang, China’s chief trade negotiator and vice minister of commerce, along with Liao Minmen, vice minister of finance.

US officials suggested that the United States and China would agree at the Beijing summit on mechanisms to facilitate mutual trade and investment, and that China would announce purchases including Boeing aircraft and US agricultural and energy products.

Beijing is seeking to have the United States ease restrictions on exports of advanced semiconductors and has raised concerns about a bill that aims to block critical chip-making equipment from entering China.

The summit talks could also touch on the Iran war, as China has close ties with Iran and is one of its main oil buyers.
