Saudi club Al-Ittihad signs German coach Vissing as a replacement for Conceição
July 10 (Reuters Sports Service) - Saudi Professional League club Al-Ittihad announced on Friday the signing of German coach Jens Wissing to replace Portuguese Sergio Conceicao, who was parted ways with the club last month after a disappointing season.
The club said on its X platform account, "Al-Ittihad Club officially announces the signing of German coach Jens Wissing to take over the technical leadership of the first football team for a period extending until 2028."
Al-Ittihad, the champion of the 2024-2025 season, separated from Conceição after finishing last season in fifth place and also lost the Saudi King’s Cup title after exiting in the semi-finals.
Vissing is 38 years old and led Japan's Gamba Osaka to win the AFC Champions League title 2 after beating Saudi Arabia's Al-Nasr last May. He has also worked as an assistant coach at Salzburg, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Monchengladbach.
