Media outlets quoted the Lebanese president as saying that a ceasefire with Israel could come into effect within 24 hours of all parties agreeing.
June 4 (Reuters) - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told local media that the ceasefire with Israel, reached last night and brokered by the United States, could take effect within 24 hours of all parties agreeing.
He continued, "We are waiting for responses from all concerned parties and guarantees of commitment and implementation, which may begin within 24 hours of final approval."
The comment appeared to be referring to the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which has yet to comment on the ceasefire announcement following talks between Israel and Lebanon in Washington.
Hezbollah opposes holding direct talks with Israel and has continued firing on Israeli forces in Lebanon, while Israel has also continued launching strikes in Lebanon.
