Zawya - Press Releases: Emirates Global Aluminium celebrates International Women in Engineering Day as women in supervisory positions reach 25 percent
United Arab Emirates – Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside the oil and gas sector, announced today that women now hold 25% of supervisory positions within the company, coinciding with the celebration of International Women in Engineering Day.
Emirates Global Aluminium set itself an ambitious target in 2021 to reach 25% gender diversity by the end of 2025. At that time, women held only 18% of supervisory positions in the company.
More than 200 women joined the company in 2025, including 113 Emirati nationals. Today, the company employs more than 830 women, over 60% of whom hold operational positions.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “Enhancing the role of women in the industrial sector is a fundamental pillar in preparing future leaders capable of achieving excellence. The progress we have made reflects our belief in the vital role of diversity in enhancing performance. From this standpoint, we are committed to building an inclusive work environment that provides women with equal opportunities to contribute, grow, and lead the success of the company and the UAE in the long term.”
Last year, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) recruited 199 new Emirati employees, including 95 women, into its graduate training program and national training programs. The company's national training programs prepare high school graduates for technical and managerial roles within the company.
The company aims to increase the percentage of women in all positions to 15% by the end of 2026, as women currently represent 12% of the total workforce, including those working in facility operations.
In early 2025, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) launched “Irshad,” a mentorship program for Emirati female university students designed to encourage them to pursue careers in the industrial sector, with a focus on STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The program offers one-on-one mentoring sessions led by EGA experts, providing students with the opportunity to explore diverse career paths within the industrial sector and access professional networks that enable them to plan their future careers.
In 2023, Emirates Global Aluminium launched "The Challenge," a program that brings together a group of leading industrial companies to promote gender diversity in the industrial sector by addressing shared challenges. The company also collaborated with the American University of Sharjah to conduct research on the obstacles preventing greater female participation in heavy industry and to develop solutions for achieving sustainable inclusion.
It is worth noting that Emirates Global Aluminium launched the “Women’s Network” in 2020, which brings together all women at different levels of the company to share their achievements and challenges to promote their professional growth.
