Zawya - Press Releases: The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi begins implementing two ministerial resolutions regarding amendments to the regulatory requirements for fishing in the emirate for 2026.
Abu Dhabi, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the Agency has begun implementing Ministerial Resolutions No. (74) and (75) of 2026, issued by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in coordination with the Agency.
Resolution No. (74) stipulates the cancellation of the decision to regulate the fishing and marketing of certain types of fish during the breeding season, and Resolution No. (75) exceptionally permits the fishing and marketing of “Al-Badah” fish in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for the remainder of 2026 only.
The two decisions fall within the framework of national efforts to balance the sustainability of marine resources with the enhancement of food security, based on improved fish stock indicators in the emirate's waters and in accordance with scientific data and field studies . The measures support fishermen and those working in the sector, and enhance the availability of fish in the local market, within an integrated framework that balances the requirements of economic development with the preservation of resources.
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi pointed out that Decision No. (75) is not a permanent lifting of the ban, but rather an exceptional measure limited to the 2026 season, and is subject to continuous review based on the results of scientific monitoring, in order to ensure the sustainability of the fish stock in the long term .
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi continues to monitor compliance with regulations and procedures governing fishing and marketing operations to protect fish stocks and promote their sustainability . The Agency calls on fishermen and all stakeholders to adhere to regulatory requirements and cooperate with relevant authorities to preserve Abu Dhabi's fish resources .
