Riyadh – The 2026 edition of the “Almarai Award,” International Track – “Almarai Award for Scientific Innovation,” was officially launched, inviting leading research institutions, prominent scientists, and global experts to nominate outstanding research that promotes food security in arid regions .

The award reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing commitment to scientific innovation and supporting solutions that address food security challenges in arid regions worldwide. Almarai, a leading regional food and agriculture company, has invested in scientific advancements, sustainable agriculture, and the long-term resilience of food systems. As one of the world’s largest vertically integrated food companies, Almarai continues to prioritize research and innovation as key drivers of global food security .

While the award is the largest global award dedicated to food security research in arid environments, it embodies the fruit of the partnership between Almarai Company and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, which has extended for more than 20 years, based on their belief that scientific discovery is the basis for building resilient food systems for future generations. The award honors leading scientists and research organizations that deliver impactful work and promote global knowledge in the field of food security in arid land areas .

The Almarai Award follows a special nomination model, as self-nomination is not possible. Nominations are made by specialists and experts with doctoral degrees. Research organizations can also nominate their researchers for outstanding work done within them. This model ensures the integrity and global standing of the award. The total value of the award is $500,000, granted to one winning research work or organization. The award also reinforces Almarai's commitment to supporting high-impact scientific innovations .

For his part, Mr. Abdullah Al-Khaled, Secretary General of the Almarai Award for Scientific Innovation, said on the occasion of launching the new cycle: “The Almarai Award reflects our commitment to enhancing global food security through scientific innovation.
